The causes of migraine with aura are not yet fully understood, but are thought to be related to the narrowing of blood vessels in the brain, causing symptoms such as flashing lights, bright spots or blurred vision, and headache lasting between 4 hours to 3 days.

Chronic migraine causes include excessive use of analgesic drugs for depression or anxiety, excessive intake of caffeine and orthopedic or rheumatic problems, causing pain in only one side of the head that happens in the form of seizures that last from 3 to 72 hours, for 15 days or more per month, for more than 3 months.
