Syphilis is a serious sexually transmitted disease, which when properly treated has a 98% chance of cure. Syphilis cure can be achieved in only 1 or 2 weeks of treatment, but when it is not treated or is not treated properly, it can last for 2 years or more.
The major cause of treatment withdrawal is that the disease has already been discontinued because there is no apparent symptom and so it is important to follow all medical guidelines until the doctor says that treatment is no longer necessary because syphilis is cured
Does syphilis have a spontaneous cure?
Syphilis does not cure alone and there is no spontaneous cure of this disease. However, after the appearance of the wound, even without the treatment, it is possible that the skin heals completely, but this does not mean that there was a natural cure for syphilis, but rather a progression of the disease.
What has happened is that the bacterium is now spreading through the body silently and untreated, it will soon surface in the secondary form. If the person does not perform the treatment at this stage, the spots on the skin may still disappear on their own and the bacteria can then affect the organs and systems, giving rise to tertiary syphilis.
Therefore the disappearance of wounds and blemishes on the skin does not indicate the cure of syphilis and the only way to eliminate these bacteria from the body is through the use of antibiotics.

Treatment to cure syphilis
The treatment to cure syphilis is done with the use of weekly injections of Penicillin as Benzetacil. The concentration of penicillin, the amount of doses and days to be taken will vary according to the time that the disease is installed in the subject.
Tests that prove the cure of syphilis
The tests that testify to cure syphilis are the VDRL blood test and the CSF exam.
Syphilis cure is achieved when VDRL and CSF tests are considered normal between 6 and 12 months after initiation of treatment. Normal tests are considered when there is a decrease of 4 titrations in the amount of antibodies circulating in the blood, for example:
- VDRL drops from 1/64 to 1/16
- VDRL drops from 1/32 to 1/8
- VDRL drops from 1/128 to 1/32
It is not necessary for the VDRL values to be zero to say that syphilis cure has been achieved.
After healing, the individual may be contaminated again if exposed again to treponema pallidum, a species of gram-negative bacteria, therefore it is recommended to use condoms in all relationships.
