It was approved in June 2019 by the FDA, a drug called Vyleesi, indicated for the treatment of hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women, which has been confused with the drug Viagra, which is indicated for men with erectile dysfunction, also known as impotence sexual, and these two conditions should also not be confused.
Although both drugs contribute to improving sexual life, they are very different and also act in different ways. Viagra acts on the body, increasing blood flow in the cavernous body of the penis, helping to obtain and maintain an erection, while Vyleesi acts on the brain, regulating mood and thinking.
Vyleesi is a drug that contains an active substance called bremelanotide, and is available in subcutaneous injection, but is not yet marketed in Brazil.
How it works
Vyleesi is thought to work by activating melanocortin receptors, which appear to be involved in many different brain functions, including mood and thought regulation.
This medication is not a female viagra, as it acts in a completely different way and is also indicated for different conditions.
How it should be used
Vyleesi is a drug indicated for women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder, and should be administered subcutaneously, at a dose of 1.75 mg, in the abdomen, about 45 minutes before sexual activity, and should not be administered more than one dose every 24 hours, no more than 8 doses per month.
Who should not use
This medication should not be used in people who are hypersensitive to the components of the formula, pregnant or lactating. In addition, it is also not recommended for people with uncontrolled hypertension or cardiovascular disease.
Possible side effects
One of the very common side effects that occurs when taking Vyleesi is nausea, which is manifested in almost half of people who take this medicine.
Other side effects that may occur include redness, headache, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, reactions at the injection site, coughing and nasal congestion.
In addition, there may also be an increase in blood pressure, which returns to normal in about 12 hours.
