The main types of laryngitis are:
- Acute laryngitis: it is usually related to a viral respiratory infection and lasts up to 7 days. But it can also be related to diseases such as diphtheria, whooping cough, measles, rubella and chicken pox. In order to identify the disease, the otorhinolaryngologist will be able to examine the individual's throat and larynx with a laryngoscope and may order blood tests if he suspects any other disease.

- Reflux laryngitis: it is an inflammation of the larynx caused by constant reflux, ie the rise of gastric contents through the larynx, which is very common in babies and in bedridden individuals. In this case, the treatment should be aimed at facilitating digestion as a way of preventing reflux. Some precautions such as not lying down after eating and having the head of the bed higher than the feet.
