The baby can go to the beach from the age of 6 months, since before 10 am and after 4 pm, since in this period the intensity of the sun's rays is weaker, decreasing the risk of sunburn and dehydration of the baby.
However, even if the trip to the beach is in the less hot hours of the day, it is important to apply sunscreen suitable for children 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapplied every 2 hours, in addition to it is also important that the baby wears a hat or cap and long-sleeved blouse with UV filter.
Before taking the baby to the beach for the first time, it is important to consult the pediatrician, because in some cases the trip to the beach should only be done after 12 months in accordance with the baby's general health. In addition, during the consultation, important guidelines can be given to reduce the baby's exposure to the sun and thus preserve their health.
Main baby care
It is important to take care of the baby on the beach so that it is possible to reduce the risk of heat stroke, infections, dehydration and burns. Thus, some important precautions are:
- Avoid the hottest hours of the day, giving preference to going to the beach before 10am and after 4pm;
- Do not let the baby sit directly on the sand, as there may be a greater risk of diaper rash and infection by bacteria, fungi or parasites. So, it is interesting to put a towel on the sand so that the baby can sit;
- Apply sunscreen suitable for the baby's age 30 minutes before exposure to the sun and every two hours;
- Leave the baby in the shade and put a hat or cap and long-sleeved blouse with UV protection on it, so that it is possible to reduce the risk of sunburn;
- Offer water to the baby every 2 hours, to avoid dehydration;
- Take a thermal bag to preserve fresh fruits and water;
- Bring toys suitable for the baby's age.
An important care that parents need to take with babies is never to use sunscreen before the baby's 6 months of life because the ingredients of this type of product can cause a serious allergy, and the baby's skin becomes very red and full of spots . This can happen simply by applying the sunscreen and not even going out in the sun, so before applying any sunscreen, it is important to talk to the pediatrician so that the most appropriate sunscreen is indicated.
