After getting a tattoo it is recommended to avoid eating fried foods, sausages, ham, sweets, alcoholic beverages and seafood, as they can stimulate inflammation in the body, which ends up delaying and impairing the healing of the tattoo. In addition, these foods, known as "oats", can promote the development of allergic reactions, which can also interfere with the healing process.
It is important to avoid these foods for 2 to 4 weeks, as it is the period of greatest healing, and to give preference to anti-inflammatory and antioxidant foods, such as nuts, berries, oranges, salmon, chia and sesame, for example. See other options for anti-inflammatory foods that you can eat after getting a tattoo.
The main foods to avoid after getting a tattoo are:
- Pork;
- Fried food, hamburger and fast food;
- Soft drinks, ready-made juices and alcoholic beverages;
- Sausages, such as sausage, ham, salami, bologna;
- Sweets, chocolate, cake and ice cream;
- Instant noodles;
- Frozen ready foods;
- Cereal bars;
- Diced beef broth;
- Seafood, mainly shrimp.
These foods, in addition to interfering with the healing process, can also favor the appearance of some diseases when consumed excessively and frequently, such as high cholesterol, diabetes and atherosclerosis, for example. Thus, it is recommended to maintain a healthy and balanced diet even after the tattoo is already healed.
See in the video below some essential care that must be followed after getting a tattoo:
What can happen if you eat these foods?
In order to have a negative effect on the healing process, it is necessary that the foods to be avoided are consumed in large quantities and regularly after the tattoo is performed, as it is possible that there is a favorable environment for inflammation, which can result in the appearance of symptoms such as:
- Local swelling and redness;
- Itching in the place where the tattoo was performed;
- Pain in the tattoo area;
- Low fever and the presence of pus, which can be indicative of infection, which can also be favored by excessive inflammation;
- Formation of keloid, which is a scar formed by a greater amount of tissue, resulting in a scar in high relief.
Thus, it is important to avoid the consumption of these foods so that it is possible to favor healing and give preference to foods with anti-inflammatory and healing properties, in addition to making use of healing ointment and antibiotics in the tattoo for 15 days, applying sunscreen and avoiding that the tattoo is directly exposed to the sun.
