Cholestyramine is a cholesterol-lowering drug known commercially as Questran Light.
This oral medication acts on the intestine transforming the cholesterol into bile acids, thus decreasing the concentration of fat in the blood.
Indications for Cholestyramine
High cholesterol; itching (associated with biliary absorption); diarrhea (due to malabsorption of bile acids).

Side Effects of Cholestyramine
Dizziness; Headache; vertigo; abdominal discomfort; constipation; hardened stools; nausea; skin rash; deficiency of vitamins A, D, E and K by decreased absorption.
Contraindications of Cholestyramine
Pregnancy risk C; women in the lactation phase; patients with biliary obstruction; Hipersensibility to any of the formula's components.
How to use Cholestyramine
Oral use
Adults
- High Cholesterol : Dilute 4g of Cholestyramine in 60 to 90ml of water or other non-alcoholic and gaseous liquid morning and evening. After 1 or 2 weeks dilute 8 g of the medicine in 120 to 180 ml of water, before meals and at bedtime. The maximum dose is 24g of the medicine per day.
