The symptoms of hydronephrosis arise due to swelling of the kidney that is caused by the accumulation of urine in this organ as a consequence of an obstruction in the urinary flow. The characteristic symptoms of hydronephrosis include:
- Fever;
- Swelling of the kidney, located in the back, lateral region of the back;
- Severe and intermittent pain in the kidneys due to excessive filling of the kidney or its obstruction;
- Displacement of the kidney down, a condition known as renal ptosis;
- Live red blood in the urine or pink urine;
- Urinary tract infection with pus in the urine;
- Pain or discomfort in the bladder area;
- Kidney stone;
- There may be nausea and vomiting.
Chronic hydronephrosis, a slow progressive progressive disease, may not produce symptoms or produce only episodes of pain on the side of the affected kidney.
Treatment for hydronephrosis
Treatment for hydronephrosis can be done by taking medications to decrease inflammation of the kidney or in some cases surgery to resolve the cause of obstruction of the ureter that is preventing the correct passage of urine.
