The sore throat in pregnancy can be treated with simple, home-made measures like gargling with warm water and salt, drinking juice or pomegranate tea or even eating more foods with vitamin C such as orange, mandarin and lemon, which help increase the body's defenses and hence the fight against inflammation or infection faster.
The use of anti-inflammatory and antibiotic medicines in pregnancy should only be done under the indication and prescription of the obstetrician because of the risk of causing malformations in the fetus or problems in its growth and development. Thus, even inflammatory sore throats that may be used in pregnancy, such as paracetamol, or antibiotics such as amoxicillin or cephalexin, for example, should only be used under medical advice.

Usually, with these home measures the inflammation of the throat improves in about 3 days. However, if the symptoms persist, it is important to consult the obstetrician to see if there is pus in the throat to indicate the use of antibiotics, but even with the indication to use this type of medicine, the 6 natural forms that we indicate here are still recommended to complement the clinical treatment.
