Trifluoperazine is an active substance of an antipsychotic drug known commercially as Stelazine.
This oral medication is indicated for the treatment of anxiety and schizophrenia, its action serves to block the impulses generated by the neurotransmitter dopamine in brain functioning.

Pregnant or lactating women; children under 6 years of age; severe cardiovascular disease; cerebrovascular diseases; with the; brain damage or central nervous system depression; bone marrow depression; blood dyscrasia; patients with hypersensitivity to phenothiazines.
How to use Trifluoperazine
Oral use
Adults and Children over 12 years
- Non-psychotic anxiety (inpatient and outpatient): Start with 1 or 2 mg, 2 times a day. In patients with more severe conditions it may be necessary to reach up to 4 mg per day, divided into 2 doses. Never exceed 5 mg per day, nor prolong treatment for more than 12 weeks in cases of anxiety.
- Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders in outpatients (but under careful medical supervision): 1 to 2 mg; 2 times per day; the dose may be increased as the patient needs.
- Patients hospitalized: 2 to 5 mg, 2 times per day; dose can be increased up to 40 mg per day, divided into 2 doses.
Children from 6 to 12 years old
- Psychosis (hospitalized patients or under careful medical supervision): 1 mg, 1 or 2 times a day; the dose may be gradually increased to 15 mg per day; divided into 2 outlets.
