Idarucizumab is an injectable drug that is used in the hospital to reverse the effects of overuse of the Pradaxa remedy, which is a widely used blood thinner.
This medicine may also be known by the trade name Praxbind and should only be used in the hospital by a qualified doctor or nurse, since its misuse can cause serious complications such as heart attack or stroke.
What is it for
Idarucizumab is indicated to reverse the effect of dabigatran, known as Pradaxa, when a rapid reversal of its anticoagulant action is required:
- To perform emergency surgeries;
- Control bleeding that could be life threatening.
By having a strong action in making the blood thicker, this medicine should only be used with the advice of a doctor.
How to use
The recommended dose is usually 5 grams, which is equivalent to two 2.5g ampoules of idarucizumab, every 24 hours.
However, in some cases, such as recurrent bleeding or the need for a second surgery, the doctor may assess the need to administer a second dose of the drug in less than 24 hours.

When used in the correct dose and under the guidance of a physician, this medicinal product does not cause adverse reactions.
