Nimesulide is an anti-inflammatory and analgesic indicated to relieve various types of pain, inflammation and fever, such as sore throat, headache or menstrual cramps, for example. This remedy can be purchased in the form of tablets, capsules, drops, granules, suppositories or ointment, and can only be used by people over 12 years of age.
The medicine can be bought in pharmacies, generic or under the trade names Cimelide, Nimesubal, Nisulid, Arflex or Fasulide, upon prescription.
What is it for
Nimesulide is indicated for the relief of acute pain, such as ear, throat or tooth pain and pain caused by menstruation. In addition, it also has an anti-inflammatory and antipyretic action.
In the form of gel or ointment, it can be used to relieve pain in tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints due to trauma.
How to use
The mode of use of Nimesulide should always be guided by a doctor, however, the recommended dosage is usually:
- Tablets and capsules: 2 times a day, every 12 hours and after meals, so as not to be aggressive to the stomach.
- Dispersible tablets and granules: dissolve the tablet or granules in about 100 mL water, every 12 hours and after meals;
- Dermatological gel: it should be applied up to 3 times a day, in the painful region, for 7 days;
- Drops : It is recommended to give one drop for each kg of body weight, twice a day;
- Suppositories: 1 suppository of 200 mg every 12 hours.
The use of this medicine should be limited to the period of time indicated by the doctor. If the pain persists after this time, a doctor should be consulted to identify the cause and initiate appropriate treatment.
Possible side effects
The most common side effects that may occur during treatment with nimesulide are diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
In addition, although it is more rare, it may also occur itching, rash, excessive sweating, constipation, increased intestinal gas, gastritis, dizziness, vertigo, hypertension and bloating.
Who should not take
Nimesulide is contraindicated for use in children, and should only be used after age 12. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid their use.
In addition, this medication is contraindicated for people with allergy to any component of the medicine, acetylsalicylic acid or other anti-inflammatories. It should also not be used by people with stomach ulcers, bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract or with severe heart, kidney or liver failure.
