Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by a bacterium known as Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which can affect men or women who have intimate contact without a condom, causing frequent infections in the penis, vagina or anus.
Generally, gonorrhea arises in adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 24 years, however, it can be avoided with the use of condoms during intimate contact.
Most of the time gonorrhea is cured through the use of antibiotics, but after treatment, the patient may be infected again if he or she has unprotected intimate contact again. In addition, it has been observed that some people have a greater resistance and the treatment usually performed because the antibiotics ceased to effect, making it difficult to cure. In this case it may be necessary to resort to a combination of different antibiotics to cure existing antibiotic resistant gonorrhea.
Symptoms of Gonorrhea
Symptoms of gonorrhea usually appear 10 days after unprotected intimate contact and it is recommended to see the doctor to initiate the best treatment. In women, the main symptoms of gonorrhea are:
- Pain or burning while urinating;
- White-yellow discharge, similar to pus;
- Frequent abdominal discomfort;
- Bleeding between the menstrual period and after intimate contact.
In men, in addition to pain or burning while urinating, there may be inflammation of the skin of the penis, sore testicles, and discharge of yellow or green liquid through the penis. Get to know other symptoms of gonorrhea.
How is the treatment done?
The treatment for gonorrhea should be guided by a gynecologist, in the case of the woman, or a urologist, in the case of man and is usually done with the use of Azithromycin tablets and Ceftriaxone in a single injection to eliminate the bacteria that causes the disease of the organism.
During treatment for gonorrhea it is important that the individual avoid having sex until completely cured. In addition, the patient's sexual partners should also be treated with antibiotics, even if they do not present symptoms, because of the risk of transmitting gonorrhea to other people or of re-contaminating the individual. Home treatment
Gonorrhea can also be treated by home treatment such as pomegranate flower tea, for example, as it is a medicinal plant that contains antiseptic and diuretic properties that help to eliminate bacteria from gonorrhea and strengthen the immune system .
To make pomegranate flower tea, simply add 2 teaspoons of dried pomegranate leaves in 500 ml of boiling water, let stand for 15 minutes, strain and drink the tea at least once a day. The natural treatment is not to replace the doctor's recommended only supplementary treatment. See other home remedies for gonorrhea.
How to prevent gonorrhea
Preventing gonorrhea should be done through sexual abstinence or having intimate contact with a condom only, since the transmission of the bacteria from one person to another is prevented.
Although gonorrhea can pass through any kind of intimate contact, the bacteria are not transmitted through kissing, hugging, or sharing cutlery, for example, because bacteria are not able to survive outside the human body.
