Sibutramine is an inhibitor of the reuptake of serotonin and noradrenaline, leading to a decrease in appetite and, therefore, helps to lose weight. However, overuse of Sibutramine may be dangerous as it increases the risk of heart disease and should only be used with medical guidance, since its side effects can be severe and do not outweigh its weight loss benefit.

In Brazil, Sibutramine can be used in obese patients with a BMI equal to or greater than 30, in addition to diet and physical activity.
