The treatment for spinal pain, also known as rachialgia, should be guided by the doctor and the physiotherapist, however, there are some techniques that can be used at home to relieve back pain, complementing the clinical and physiotherapeutic treatment.
What can be done to eliminate pain in the spine at home is, if possible, lie on your belly upwards, leaning firmly on the floor or on a firm mattress, folding your knees and keeping your arms along your body, breathing deeply for a few minutes. In addition, it is recommended:
1. Place a hot water bottle in the place of pain
The thermal gel bags that are sold in pharmacies and orthopedic stores are great for relaxing the muscles, promoting pain relief. To make a thermal bag at home, you can put small dry beans with rice, flaxseed or pumpkin seeds, for example, in a small pillowcase or a diaper, microwave and use when needed. The warm pouch should be placed in the painful region for 15 to 20 minutes, but be careful not to burn the skin.
2. Do a stretching exercise for spine
After using the thermal bag, stretching helps to combat back pain, improving blood circulation and promoting elasticity. A great stretch for spine pain is lying on your belly up and holding your legs as shown in the following image. You should stand in this position for 1 minute, rest your feet on the floor, and then resume stretching two more times.
