The mother's feeding during breastfeeding should be rich and varied, but above all, it should be filled with foods such as fruits, whole grains, dairy products, vegetables, avoiding industrialized and very fatty foods that do not add nutritional value to the mother nor for the baby.
During breastfeeding, even with increased calories in the diet, the mother slims on average 1 to 2 kg per month, slowly and gradually, because of the energy that is lost during milk production.
What to eat at breastfeeding
Some tips to facilitate feeding the breastfeeding mother may be to eat:
- At least 3 fruits per day;
- Vegetables and vegetables for lunch and dinner;
- Well cooked fish in one of the main meals, such as dinner;
- Rice, pasta or potatoes in main meals (less than half the plate);
- 3 servings of dairy in a day, such as 1 glass of milk, 1 slice of minas cheese and 1 yogurt, for example;

In addition, it is fundamental in the diet during breastfeeding that the mother also ingest a good amount of water to aid in the production of milk, about 3 to 4 liters. This amount encompasses the water present in fruits, soups and juices, but it alone is not enough to produce all the milk that the baby needs, being necessary to drink about 2 liters of liquids, such as water or teas, per day.

To avoid cramping in the baby, it is important that the mother does not overeat foods that cause gas, such as beans, peas, turnips, broccoli or cauliflower, for example. Foods that should be avoided in breastfeeding by the breastfeeding mother are foods like fried foods, sausages, cheeses, soft drinks, cakes or biscuits, for example, because they have large amounts of fats and sugars.
