Cefpodoxime is a medicine known commercially as Orelox.
This medication is an oral antibacterial, which decreases the symptoms of bacterial infections shortly after ingestion, this is due to the ease with which this medicine is absorbed by the intestine.
Cefpodoxine is used to treat tonsillitis, pneumonia, and otitis.
Indications of Cefpodoxime
Amigadalite; otitis; bacterial pneumonia; sinusitis; pharyngitis.
Side effects of Cefpodoxime
Diarrhea; nausea; vomiting.
Contraindications of Cefpodoxime
Pregnancy risk B; women in the lactation phase; hypersensitivity to penicillin derivatives.
How to use Cefpodoxime
Oral use
Adults
- Pharyngitis and tonsillitis : Administer 500 mg every 24 hours for 10 days.
- Bronchitis : Give 500 mg every 12 hours for 10 days.
- Acute sinusitis : Give 250 to 500 mg every 12 hours for 10 days.
- Skin and soft tissue infection : Give 250 to 500 mg every 12 hours or 500 mg every 24 hours for 10 days.
- Urinary infection (uncomplicated): Give 500 mg every 24 hours.
Seniors
- Decrease may be necessary to not impair kidney function. Administer according to medical recommendation.
Children
- Otitis media (between 6 months and 12 years of age): Administer 15 mg per kg body weight every 12 hours for 10 days.
- Pharyngitis and tonsillitis (between 2 and 12 years of age): Administer 7.5 mg per kg body weight every 12 hours for 10 days.
- Acute sinusitis (between 6 months and 12 years of age): Administer 7.5 mg to 15 mg per kg body weight every 12 hours for 10 days.
- Skin and soft tissue infection (between 2 and 12 years of age): Administer 20 mg per kg body weight every 24 hours for 10 days.
