Malaria prevention
- Adults and children over 10 years: 1 tablet per week;
- Children aged 5 to 10 years: ½ tablet per week;
- Children under 5: ¼ tablet per week.
Malaria treatment
- Adults and children over 14 years: 2 to 3 tablets together with 1000 mg to 1500 mg of sulfadiazine in a single dose;
- Children aged 9 to 14 years: 2 tablets together with 1000 mg of sulfadiazine in a single dose;
- Children aged between 4 and 8 years: 1 tablet together with 1000 mg of sulfadiazine in a single dose;
- Children under 4 years: ½ tablet together with 1000 mg of sulfadiazine in a single dose.
Side effects
The main side effects of Daraprim include skin allergies, palpitations, nausea, cramps, diarrhea, poor appetite, blood in the urine and changes in the blood test.
Contraindications
Daraprim is contraindicated in patients with secondary megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency or hypersensitivity to pyrimethamine or any of the components of the formula.
