Milrinone is the active substance of a vasodilator drug known commercially as Primacor.
This injectable drug is indicated for heart failure, since its action consists in increasing the force of contraction of the heart and in relaxing the smooth muscle of the arteries and veins, increasing preload and cardiac afterload.

Congestive heart failure
- Administer 50 mcg per kg body weight, administered slowly in about 10 minutes. The maintenance dose should remain between 0.375 to 0.75 mcg per kg of body weight per minute.'
The total dose in 24 hours should not exceed 1.13 mg per kg body weight. Consult manufacturer's tables on infusion rate according to body weight.
