1. Isotretinoin
Isotretinoin is one of the most effective treatments in the fight against acne. This active substance acts on the sebaceous gland, decreasing the production of sebum, thus reducing bacterial proliferation and inflammation. This medicine is marketed under the name Roacutan and can be obtained from pharmacies with a prescription.
How to use:
Generally, treatment is started at 0.5 mg / kg per day and can be increased up to 2 mg / kg per day and the capsules should be given orally during meals once or twice a day.
Side effects:
The most common side effects that can occur with the use of isotretinoin are fragility, itching and dryness of the skin, lips and eyes, muscle, joint and lumbar pain, increased triglycerides and cholesterol, decreased HDL, anemia, increase or decrease in platelets and conjunctivitis.
2. Oral antibiotics
In more severe cases antibiotics such as tetracyclines and derivatives, such as minocycline, for example, may limit bacterial proliferation.
How to use:
Generally, at an initial stage, the usual daily dose of tetracycline is 500mg to 2g, orally and in divided doses throughout the day. It is then reduced to a daily dose of 125mg to 1g.
The usual dose of minocycline is 100mg per day, however, the doctor may increase the dose to 200mg per day.
Side effects:
Although rare, some side effects such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rashes or onset of other infections may occur.
3. Creams and lotions
The most commonly used creams and lotions in acne are antibiotics, such as benzoyl peroxide or azelaic acid, for example, which are used in inflammatory acne, pimples.
In addition also creams with retinoids can be applied, as is the case of adapalene, which acts on the sebaceous gland, decreasing the production of sebum and stimulates cellular regeneration.
How to use:
Azelaic acid should be applied about 2 times a day and adapalene should be applied once a day in the affected regions.
The creams with retinoids should be applied to clean and dry skin once a day throughout the region with acne or prone to developing acne.
Side effects:
The most common side effects that can occur with the use of these products are dry skin, irritation and burning sensation of the skin.
4. Contraceptive pill
The treatment of acne in women can be done using contraceptives, such as Diane 35, Thames 20 or Diclin for example, which help control hormones such as androgens, decreasing skin oils and the formation of pimples. See other contraceptives and when they should not be used.
How to use:
The contraceptive pill should be used normally, taking 1 tablet every day, always at the same time for 21 days. After this, you should pause for 7 days and restart a new carton.
Side effects:
Side effects depend on the pill your doctor prescribes, but usually those that manifest most often are nausea, abdominal pain, breast tenderness, headache, weight gain, and changes in mood.
In addition to these remedies, products can also be applied locally to dry the pimples, such as the Lapis Secativo Derat Secativa Anti Acne or the Acnase Sectional Pencil.
During the treatment of pimples with these medicines, it is recommended not to sunbathe and always use sunscreen, not to use swimming pools sanitized with chlorine, to drink about 2 liters of water per day and to make a suitable feeding, giving preference to the fish and avoiding food like chocolate or nuts.
Remedy for acne in pregnancy
A remedy for acne that can be used in pregnancy, if indicated by the doctor, is Azelaic Acid. However, the pregnant should consult the dermatologist and obstetrician before taking any remedy for acne in pregnancy, as some may harm the baby.
