The lack of magnesium can cause various diseases and these can be treated with magnesium supplementation in the diet. Some symptoms of magnesium deficiency are:
- Tremors, sensitivity to noise, fatigue,
- depression, nervousness, tension,
- insomnia, PMS, hyperactivity,
- convulsions, kidney stones, hypertension,
- diabetes mellitus, tachycardia, arrhythmias,
- heart failure, coronary spasms,
- angina, heart attacks, muscle spasms,
- menstrual cramps, gangrene, eclampsia,
- lead toxicity, alcoholism.
Ingestion of some medications may lead to magnesium deficiency, they are: cycloserine, furosemide, thiazides, hydrochlorothiazides, tetracyclines and oral contraceptives.
