Bisacodil is a laxative medicine that stimulates defecation as it promotes bowel movements and softens the stool, facilitating their expulsion.
The drug can be sold commercially under the names Bisalax, Dulcolax or Lactate Perga and is produced by the laboratories DM Dorsay and Boehringer Ingelheim and can be purchased from pharmacies in the form of a tablet, a tablet or a suppository.

How to use
How to use Bisacodyl for treatment depends on the form of the medicine and should be taken or applied after your doctor has told you.
- Dragees and tablets : it is ingested orally, and in adults and children over 10 years should take 1 to 2 tablets of 5 to 10 mg and in children of 4 to 10 years only 1 tablet of 5 mg at bedtime;
- Suppositories : suppositories should be taken out of the envelope and inserted into the rectum, with the effect of suppositories occurring 20 minutes after application. Adults and children over 10 years should apply a 10 mg suppository for immediate effect.
To have a good result, these medicines should not be broken or chewed, and the onset of action should be between 6 and 12 hours.
Side effects
The most common side effects of Bisacodil include abdominal pain, colic, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea and dehydration.
Prolonged and excessive use of this laxative can cause loss of fluids, minerals, and a decrease in potassium in the blood, which may impair the functioning of the heart.
Contraindications
Bisacodil is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the formula, children less than 4 years of age or pregnant women.
In addition, it is contraindicated in patients with appendicitis, severe abdominal pain associated with nausea and vomiting or in cases of severe dehydration and, in hereditary conditions of galactose and / or fructose intolerance.
