Sepurin is an antibiotic that contains methenamine and methylthioninium chloride, substances that eliminate bacteria in cases of urinary tract infection, relieving symptoms such as burning and painful urination, and preventing the infection from getting worse and reaching the kidneys or bladder. This remedy has a price of about 18 to 20 reais and can be purchased at the pharmacy with a prescription.
As methylthioninium chloride is a dye, it is normal that during the use of this remedy urine and faeces will have a bluish or greenish coloration, being only a side effect.
In addition to being used to treat urinary tract infections, Sepurin may also be recommended in people who use a bladder catheter to prevent bladder infection or to prevent bladder infection in people with frequently occurring urinary tract infections. See some precautions with the catheter that also help prevent infections.
How to take
This medicine should be swallowed 2 to 3 times a day, see your doctor and tell you about another antibiotic or change the dose of Sepurin, for example.
After ingestion, it is advised to drink little water and keep the urine as long as possible in the bladder, at least during the two palm hours. In the case of people with a catheter, the catheter should be kept closed for 4 hours after the use of the medicine.
Possible side effects
Use of Sepurin may cause some side effects such as skin reactions, abdominal pain, increased urination, urine and bluish colored stools, nausea and vomiting.
Who should not take
Sepurin is contraindicated for pregnant women, breast-feeding women, or people with liver disease, methemoglobinemia, kidney disease, or diabetes. In addition, it should also not be used when a urine test is needed or when you are allergic to any of the components of the formula.
It is important to tell your doctor if you are being treated with medicines other than Sepurin.
