How to use Desmopressin
The mode of use of desmopressin varies according to the form of presentation, and the main guidelines are:
Desmopressin tablet
- Diabetes insipidus central: the average dose for adults is 1 to 2 sprayed up to 2 times a day, while in the child it is sprayed up to 2 times a day;
- Nocturnal enuresis: the starting dose is 1 tablet of 0.2 mg at bedtime, the dose may be increased by the physician throughout the course of treatment;
- Noctria: The starting dose is 1 tablet of 0.1 mg at bedtime, and the dose may be increased by the physician throughout the treatment.
Desmopressin in nasal drops
- Diabetes insipidus central: the starting dose is 1 tablet 0.1 mg three times a day and can then be adjusted by the physician.
Desmopressin side effects
The side effects of desmopressin include headache, nausea, stomach pain, bloating, weight gain, irritation and nightmares.
Contraindications of Desmopressin
Desmopressin is contraindicated in patients with habitual and psychogenic polydipsia, heart failure, moderate to severe renal insufficiency, syndrome of inappropriate DHF secretion, hyponatraemia, increased risk of intracranial pressure, or hypersensitivity to desmopressin or any other component of the formula.
