Cypress is a medicinal plant, popularly known as Common Cypress, Italian Cypress and Cypress of the Mediterranean, widely used for the treatment of circulatory problems, as it improves damaged blood vessels and reduces the retention of body fluids.
Its scientific name is Cupressus sempervirens L. and can be purchased in some markets and in stores of natural products in the form of essential oil.

Cypress is used to supplement the treatment of asthma, anxiety, bronchitis, spasms, fever, influenza, dysentery, hemorrhoids, poor circulation, menopausal symptoms, hernia, insomnia, hemorrhage, edema, rheumatism, PMS (premenstrual tension), cough, varicose veins, weakness, low blood pressure, laryngitis, pulmonary congestion, excessive menstruation, urinary tract infection, cellulitis, excessive heat, cramps and menstrual cramps.

The properties of the cypress are its antiseptic, sweat, sedative, healing, diuretic, insecticidal, astringent, soothing, deodorant and restorative action.
How to use the Cypress
Cypress is used in the form of essential oil and should always be diluted.
- Moisturizer: Add 8 drops of Cypress essential oil in 30 ml of lotion or moisturizing cream. Apply on edema or varicose veins.
- Inhalation: Inhaling the steam of the essential oil of Cypress is a great way to decrease nasal congestion. Add 3 to 5 drops in a container with boiling water, close the eyes and inhale the vapor.
- Compresses: Add 8 drops of Cypress essential oil to boiling water and moisten a clean towel. Put the warm compress on the abdomen to contain excessive menstruation.
