To stop pimples that appear at inappropriate times, or that persist in the skin and cause stains and scars, it is important to maintain a good hygiene of the places where they arise, avoiding accumulation of oil, makeup or blackheads, through cleaning products or exfoliation of the skin.
But when they are inflamed, it is recommended not to stir, not even to squeeze, so that they can leave marks and permanent scars on the skin. In this case, it is recommended to leave the place clean, and use strategies to deflate, such as ice pack or black tea, for example.
The treatment options for pimples available to remove pimples and improve the appearance of the skin are:
1. Oil-removing lotions
Cleansing lotions are able to remove oil, impurities, dead cells and unclog the pores of the skin, making the pimples dry quickly. These products are available in liquid, gel, foam and bar forms, and some options are based on micellar water, alcoholic or methacrylate products, for example.
They are sold in pharmacies and cosmetics stores by various brands such as Jhonson's, Eucerin, Nivea, Nuxe, Lóreal, Neutrogena, Garnier and among others, and they exist for all skin types, from the most oily to the most dry .
2. Exfoliating skin cleanser
For deeper cleansing, it is recommended to exfoliate once a week with specific skin or face skin products that can be purchased at a pharmacy or prepared at home. There are great homemade exfoliants made from coffee, sugar or oats, for example. Check out the recipe for a home-made oatmeal scrub, natural yogurt and lavender essence.
A deeper skin cleansing can also be done periodically, with more specific and potent products to act in deeper layers, such as peeling, or other treatments to remove the first layer of skin, with laser or dermabrasion, for example. These treatments also serve to help diminish the appearance of scars or spotting of pimples, and should be done by the Dermatologist.
3. Use of medicines
A great option for eliminating various types of acne from the face are the so-called retinoid creams which are able to decrease inflammation and build up of dead tissue and clogged pores but which should be prescribed by the Dermatologist as they may have some side effects, such as redness and burning of the skin.
The main options are products with formulations based on retinoic acid, adapalene, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, azelaic acid, topical antibiotics or isotretinoin, which can be purchased or handled in handling pharmacies.
Since oral medications such as antibiotics, contraceptives and isotretinoin are used in case of persistent or more intense acne, and should also be prescribed by the Dermatologist for a longer term treatment, based on the person's skin and acne type.
