Batten's disease is a degenerative disease of the brain, which causes loss of acquired abilities until the onset of the symptoms that begin, usually manifesting at around 5 years of age. Children have normal development, and until the symptoms of Batten disease begin to manifest, such as: convulsions, vision problems, aggressive behaviors, learning difficulties, progressive loss of motor abilities, mental confusion and loss of balance.
There are no means to prevent Batten's disease, which originates from a genetic mutation and only ends with the death of the patient.
The diagnosis is made through genetic testing, which detects the presence of the affected genes, and although there is no effective treatment to cure Batten disease, it is directed to soften the symptoms that arise during the life of the wearer using physiotherapy, psychotherapy, music therapy, occupational therapy and anticonvulsant drugs to improve the quality of life of the bearer of this genetic defect.
