Hydraste is a medicinal plant, also known as yellow root, effective in treating conjunctivitis and fungal infections, strengthening the immune system and leaving the individual more protected against diseases of microbial origin.
Its scientific name is Hydrastis canadensis L. and can be purchased at natural products stores.
What is Hidraste used for?
The hydraste serves to treat conjunctivitis, digestive disorders, colitis, nasal congestion, cystitis, diarrhea, dyspepsia, sore throat, hemorrhage, gastritis, hemorrhoids, fungal infections, irritated eyes, excessive menstruation, intestinal parasites and ulcers.

The properties of hydraste include its digestive, expectorant, astringent, stimulating, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiandrogenic, antidiarrheal and homeostatic action.
How to use Hydraste
The used part of the hydraste is its root, and can be used to make teas and infusions.
- Hydrangea tea for conjunctivitis : Add 1 teaspoon of hydrating root in 250 ml of boiling water and cover the container for approximately 15 minutes. Wash eye with conjunctivitis with tea 3 times a day.
Side Effects of Hydraste
Side effects of the hydraste include needle sensation in the hands, decreased white blood cells, nausea and vomiting.
Contraindications of Hydraste
Hydraste is contraindicated in pregnant women as it stimulates uterine contractions and may cause miscarriage.
