Frontal is an anxiolytic whose active principle is alprazolan. This medicine works by depressing the central nervous system and therefore has a calming effect. Frontal XR is the extended-release tablet version.
During the frontal treatment, alcoholic beverages should not be consumed as it increases their depressant effect. This medicine may cause dependency.
Indications
Anxiety; Panic Syndrome.
Side effects
Patients with anxiety: drowsiness; depression; Headache; dry mouth; intestinal constipation; diarrhea; imminent fall.
Patients with panic syndrome: somnolence; fatigue; lack of coordination; irritability; memory change; dizziness; insomnia; Headache; cognitive disorders; difficulty speaking; anxiety; abnormal involuntary movements; alteration of sexual desire; depression; mental confusion; decreased salivation; intestinal constipation; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; stomach ache; nasal congestion; increased heart rate; chest pain; blurred vision; sweating; skin rash; increased appetite; decreased appetite; weight gain; weight loss; difficulty urinating; change in menstruation; imminent fall.
Usually the initial side effects disappear with continued treatment.
Contraindications
Pregnancy risk D; people with liver or kidney problems; breast-feeding; children under 18 years of age.
How to use
Anxiety : start with 0.25 to 0.5 mg up to three times a day. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 4 mg.
Panic syndrome : Take 0.5 or 1 mg before bed or 0.5 mg 3 times a day, increasing 1 mg per day every 3 days. The maximum dose in these cases may reach 10 mg.
Note:
XR tablets have prolonged release. One should initially ingest 1 mg once or twice daily in the case of anxiety, but in cases of panic syndrome, start with 0.5 mg twice daily. In the case of the elderly the doses should be reduced.
