There are some home remedies that can be used to relieve the symptoms of cystitis, a bladder infection usually caused by bacteria, which when not properly treated can lead to kidney complications.
Usually the treatment for cystitis is done with antibiotics, which can be associated with home remedies that strengthen the immune system, hinder the adherence of bacteria to the urinary tract and have antiseptic properties.
1. Sodium bicarbonate solution
An excellent home remedy for cystitis is to take sodium bicarbonate because it changes the pH of urine, making it less acidic, so that bacteria do not multiply easily, relieving the symptoms of the disease.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda;
- 300 mL of water.
Method of preparation
Dissolve the baking soda in the water and drink it all at once. The same procedure should be repeated 6-7 times a day.
Generally, ingestion of a large amount of liquid will eliminate the infection of the bladder when it is light, as the discharge action of urine eliminates many bacteria and the body's natural defenses eliminate the remaining bacteria.
2. Seat bath with sandalwood
Another good home remedy for cystitis is the sandalwood bath because of its antimicrobial properties that make it difficult for the micro-organisms that cause inflammation to thrive.
Ingredients
- 10 drops of sandalwood essential oil;
- 1 liter of water.
Method of preparation
Mix the drops of sandalwood in the water, put in a bowl and then sit inside this water for approximately 20 minutes. Repeat this procedure until the symptoms of cystitis decrease.
3. Cranberry Juice
Cranberry juice helps prevent and treat bladder infections since it lubricates the bladder walls and prevents the development of bacteria.
Ingredients
- 60 mL of water;
- 125 mL sugarless cranberry juice;
- 60 mL of sugar free apple juice.
Method of preparation
Mix the ingredients in a glass and drink about 6 cups of this mixture daily, at the first sign of a urinary tract infection. People who are susceptible to this type of infection should drink two glasses a day as a preventive measure. Learn about other benefits of cranberry.
4. Grapefruit tea
Ursine has antiseptic properties, thus helping to combat urinary tract infections.
Ingredients
- 250 mL of boiling water;
- 1 teaspoon dried grapefruit leaves.
Method of preparation
Pour the water over the leaves, cover, let stand for about 15 minutes and strain. One should drink three cups a day at the first signs of infection and continue to drink for another three days after the symptoms disappear. One should not drink cranberry juice while taking grapefruit because this herb works best in alkaline environment. See other indications of grapefruit.
