Complications typical of drug users include behavioral changes and diseases such as:
- Injury to the stomach, such as ulcers and gastritis;
- Injury to the arteries and blood vessels due to the constant injections for injecting drug use;
- Pulmonary problems, such as pulmonary emphysema, due to the dust present in the lungs;
- Nasal bleeding;
- Injuries to the brain due to prolonged use of chemicals that attack neurons;
- Skin lesions caused by premature aging;
- Blood infections;
- Liver injury;
- Cardiac complications;
- STDs, such as hepatitis and HPV;
- AIDS, for sharing syringes and / or for unprotected intimate contact;
- Severe malnutrition caused by anorexia and / or bulimia;
- State of euphoria and depression.
Complications vary according to the drug used by the individual. Those that are inhaled cause serious health problems in the lungs and those that are injected into the bloodstream, or ingested, can cause infections that affect the whole body. These lesions usually appear after prolonged use of the drugs. Some injuries can be cured only if the individual stops taking drugs.
Most long-term drug users die of overdose or suicide in relatively short time of use. Look at the symptoms of overdose and learn how your treatment is done.
