Munchausen syndrome is a psychiatric disease, where the patient causes or simulates symptoms of illness.
Individuals with Munchausen syndrome repeatedly invent diseases and often go from hospital to hospital for treatment and in addition to simulating diseases, are also knowledgeable about medical practices, able to manipulate their care to be hospitalized and undergo treatments and until major surgeries.
Although the scams of individuals with this syndrome are aware, they do not know why they do it.
There is a similar condition known as Munchausen syndrome by substitute, it has similar characteristics but in this case, a child is used as a passive patient, usually by a parent, who falsifies the child's medical history by concealing illnesses that the child does not possess.
