Tecentriq is an antineoplastic medicine that contains atezolizumab, a substance that weakens cancer cells and facilitates their destruction by the immune system.
This medicine is for injection and may only be used in the hospital with the advice of a doctor as it must be administered directly into the vein.
What is it for
Tecentriq is indicated for the treatment of advanced or metastatic bladder cancer, especially when the disease worsens after starting treatment with chemotherapy.
How to use
This medicine should only be given to the hospital every 3 weeks at a dose of 1200 mg for 60 minutes. If after the first use of the medicine, no side effects appear, the following doses may be given in as little as 30 minutes.
To prepare the Tecentriq you must:
- Remove 20 mL of the drug from the vial using a sterile syringe and needle;
- Place the medication in a 250 ml vial of saline;
- Shake the bottle slightly to mix.
Depending on the age of each person and the severity of the disease, the dose can be adjusted by the oncologist.
Possible side effects
Some of the most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, excessive tiredness, fever, recurrent urinary tract infection, joint pain, blood in the urine, feeling of shortness of breath, coughing and allergy in the skin.
Who should not use
No contraindications are described for Tecentriq, however, it should only be used with advice from an oncologist specialized in the treatment of bladder cancer.
